A Little Behind

Okay, I am officially a little behind! With summer reading coming to an end, programming and everything else that Youth Services librarians do, I have had a hard time keeping up lately.

I have recently started to use Firefox and have discovered that I like it. Viewing the videos from the 21 Things blog showed me that it can do so much more than I was using it for. We have 2 staff members that use it exclusively and one day I was frustrated with the speed of IE and they told me to use Firefox instead. Ever since that day, I have been using it more and more. I will explore more of it's capabilities once summer reading is over and before class visits start! However, I still have not downloaded onto my home computer since I do not spend that much time on it. I figure I am on the computer so much at work that I really don't want to spend extra time on one at home. That is why friends get mad when I don't update Facebook or check email!

As for creating a wiki, I am slowly doing that. Right now it is private because I keep changing my mind on what I want it to be about. I can't see a reason to have a personal wiki of my own, but definitely see uses for professional purposes. I must add that I am still partial to blogs over wikis for my information.

Hopefully I will be caught up with this weeks topics before next week!

  1. I am stuck in that busy YS Summer Reading schedule too! As much as I love it I am counting down the days until it is over so I can start wrapping my brain around what I have to do in the fall and start to catch up on this challenge! You mentioned Firefox is quicker then IE...that might help me make a switch to using firefox more...because I need everything to be quicker for my busy schedule! Also, a few posts ago you mentioned your recented purchase of an e-reader...when I read (or hear) things like that it gets be closer to buying one, I am almost convinced to just spend the money and get one, especially with a vacation in sight!

  2. Agreed with you on so many points! It is hard to keep up, but I think we are all in the same boat and it is nice to see how others work through the challenges of multitasking. We are just really glad that you are part of the 21Things :)
I recently started a new job, and I feel the same way about wanting to stay completely unplugged when I'm at home. Technology really can be a blessing and a curse! As for Firefox/IE, I try to avoid using IE whenever I can for the exact reason you stated. You may want to try out Google Chrome, which is really easy to install, and so fast! I've been using it for a few months now, and when I use other browsers they feel clunkier and less efficient. Not that you need something new to check out :).
    Keep up the great blogging!
